This year’s event features art and artists- both artists working in gardens, as well as the gardens of artists! Each property has unique features that reflect the interests and styles of their owners and offer visitors a beautiful journey across the back roads of Vermont and New Hampshire with lovely views along the way. One gardener, who also arranges flowers arrangements commercially, has built an adorable and charming “teahouse” from old barn beams, large glass windows, and a charming array of antique furnishings. It’ll be a great source of inspiration for gardeners thinking about building something similar, as it’s “on trend” for the kind of “she-shed” seen in many publications of late!
Artists will be featured in two gardens nearby each other on a typical Vermont country road in the hills. Old homes and barns inhabit this area, and the drive to their location is very scenic! One garden is the product of a poet and a painter, and their barn is an artist’s studio, which will be busy with a variety of local artists and their work to enjoy (and even purchase!) Paintings, pottery, jewelry, and woodworking are featured at this location. Nearby is a lovely traditional Vermont Cape with elegant gardens, where a local photographer will be displaying his work, as well as a non-profit organization that helps kids become interested in gardening.
Crossing over to New Hampshire from Newbury, Vermont will bring you to a country home where the gardens have been designed and tended by a New Hampshire Master Gardener. The style here is a combination of formal and cottage-style gardens in orderly beds. As in other locations, there will be a painter here working to capture its beauty and exhibiting their work. More painters will be at the historic Alumni Hall in Haverhill Corner where the Tea will be served from 1:00-3:00 pm. The tea will offer light and delicious fare and drinks at the home of Court Street Arts, which is included with the price of each ticket. Visit www.cohase.org for more information and updates as the event draws closer! The Tour is sponsored this year by WYKR, Odell Insurance, Blackmount Equipment, Wells River Chevrolet, Wells River Savings Bank, North Country Organics, North Haverhill Agway and Bank of New Hampshire.
