The North Country Chorus and nine soloists sing Handel’s oratorio “Messiah”
in their 72nd annual Christmas concert. The 80 voices of the Chorus,
accompanied by a ten-piece chamber ensemble, are under the direction of
“Messiah” was composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel. After an
initially modest public reception, the oratorio gained in popularity,
eventually becoming one of the best-known and most frequently performed
choral works in Western music. It is among the most anticipated classical
works in the North Country Chorus’ repertoire.
Audience members who are familiar with the work will be invited to join in
singing the “Hallelujah” chorus.
